About Suzume no Tojimari

Suzume no Tojimari also called Suzume’s Locking-Up, is an upcoming Japanese animated scientific fantasy adventure film which was directed by Makoto Shinkai, created by CoMix Wave Films, and released by Toho. This anime movie will be published in Japan in November 2022 and camping up internationally early in 2023.

This anime movie tells a story about Suzume, a 17-year-old girl who lives in a sleepy town in the Kyushu area of southwest Japan and is one of the main characters. Suzume encounters a young man who is looking for a “door” at the start of the tale. Together, they walk to a mountainous abandoned home where they discover an old door. Suzume extends her hand toward the entrance and feels as though something is pulling her in. Throughout Japan, “Doors of Disaster” starts to appear, which causes a string of catastrophic catastrophes.

The movie follows Suzume as she travels over Japan, closing and locking the “Doors of Disaster” one by one in order to stop the calamities. It also follows her on an adventure and battle in the modern world as she searches for her maturity and freedom.

Production of Suzume no Tojimari

From January to March 2020, the project was prepared by director Makoto Shinkai and his team. In April, they began writing the movie’s script when the Japanese government proclaimed a state of emergency owing to the COVID-19 outbreak. Shinkai claims that the epidemic had a less noticeable impact on the movie’s production in an interview with TV Asahi. He added that the movie will have a post-apocalyptic concept, but that “the spirit of the times is indelibly engraved into the narrative.” After the writing was completed in August, the storyboards were created between September 2020 and December 2021, and the animation production began in April 2021.

Voice Cast of Suzume no Tojimari

Director Makoto Shinkai, who had heard over 1,700 auditions, gave the chance directly to Nanoka Hara as a surprise when he notified the final audition. Nanoka Hara howled while saying forcefully, “I will do my best!”

This is the first time Nanoka Hara challenged voice acting in animation. “I still kind of can’t believe it, it’s like I’m dreaming. When I first saw Makoto Shinkai’s work in the cinema in the summer, I was moved in a way I will never forget, and I never thought I would have the chance to be a part of it one day” she said, “I am feeling that something extraordinary is about to happen”.

The reason why Makoto Shinkai choose Nanoka Hara to be the voice cast of Suzume no Tojimari, he said: “The emotions and the voice are closer than anyone could ever imagine. I think this is a rare talent that Nanoka Hara possesses.” He also said that: “She can able to give Suzumiya enough affection, just like the moment when a thick cloud is blown away.”
